This week we attended the Media Production Show, which took place at Olympia in London. The leading industry show is a great place to meet other like-minded people within media, discover cutting edge technology and hear about the latest news.
While attending the show, we caught up with Blackmagic Design. We previously wrote about making a positive investment in Blackmagic’s excellent cameras and associated equipment, and we were keen to find out more about their new Pocket Cinema Camera at the show. The handheld digital film camera has so many great features, including a 4/3 size sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600 – really exciting stuff! So exciting, in fact, that we decided to make a preorder.
Further exploration led to a demo of Sharp’s 8K Professional Camcorder and 8K-compatible TVs and displays. Obviously keen to step away from the notion that this might be just another high resolution consumer concept, Sharp explained that Japan’s national broadcaster is preparing to launch 8K transmissions to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics. Could we all find ourselves filming on 8K cameras come 2020? Watch this space…
We had an insightful day at the Media Production Show, and were pleased to bump into some of our collaborators. It’s imperative for us to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest in media, so we took this as an opportunity to do just that, and we hope to visit again next year.
