The latest Nike commercial ‘Nothing beats a Londoner’ is not far short of genius. The pride in collapsing infrastructure. The cameos from A-listers and social-media influencers and wide ranging locations – it really does show London in all its flawed glory. There are already rumours of other cities wanting their own version. It’s beautifully shot, beautifully written and (bar a couple of clichés I’d like to have reversed), one of the best ads I’ve seen. Ever.
The Londoners in my family loved it. All ages. I’m buying them the t-shirt. The ad ‘works’ on every level.
We’d love to do one about Suffolk. Our lack of transport, sports facilities and the resulting ‘make do’ attitude possibly outstrips London. The pride of hailing from the east, arguably stronger. The impenetrable accents, arguably thicker.
Anyway. Watch the ad. I’m on my hundredth view. What ‘challenging’ scenarios would you use to sum up your local area?
